DC Comics brings us Batman #8 – a prelude to the Night of the Owls crossover event, as well as Justice League #8.

Marvel is putting out their highly anticipated Issue #2 of Avengers vs. X-Men. Issues #0 and #1 have been flying off shelves! We also see the release of Wolverine and the X-Men #9, which is an AVX tie in book this month.

In terms of smaller press we have issue 2 of the superb Jonathan Hickman book “Manhattan Projects”, TMNT “Leonardo” microseries, and issue #96 of The Walking Dead!

Plus, a ton of awesome new T-shirts!

Keep an eye out on our YouTube channel for Unboxing Wednesdays #77, where we will unbox this shipment in front of the cameras for your viewing pleasure! That episode should be online sometime on Thursday.

An Advance Look at Sketch Covers for our Avengers vs. X-Men #1 Launch Party

We recently gave one of our favourite artists Vince Sunico some advance copies of Marvel’s Avengers vs. X-Men blank variants so he could get some sketches done on them in advance of our Avengers vs. X-Men #1 Launch party Tuesday night from 6pm-9pm.

He just emailed us scans of his work – and we were BLOWN AWAY! Click on each image to see a larger version.

These covers will be available for sale at our store starting at 8pm on Tuesday evening, along with all of the other covers of Avengers vs. X-Men #1. Vince Sunico will also be in-store doing custom sketches on blank covers for people in addition to these covers he’s done in advance. Make sure you come in and pick one up, or get your own sketch and see Vince bring your idea to life! Vince will be at the store around 6pm.

These sketches will be sold on a first come first serve basis; you have to be at the store to pick one up! They will sell for $20 each. Please don’t try to reserve one over the phone or via email. These particular covers will be limited to 1 per customer, although you are more than welcome to get additional custom blank covers sketched on at our event!

Also attending the event will be Transformers artist Alex Milne, and independent artist Marvin Law. Alex has also completed a bunch of sketch covers in advance, and we’ll have pictures of those soon!

There will be lots of opportunities for sketches! And don’t forget that we’ll have freebies such as posters, pins, and other prizes!

Marvel brings the heat this week with the highly anticipated Issue #0 of Avengers vs. X-Men. The even more highly anticipated Avengers vs. X-Men #1 launches next Tuesday at 8pm at our Launch Party!

In terms of smaller press we have New Deadwardians #1 from Vertigo, Magic the Gathering #3, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #8. Oh! And how can we forget The Walking Dead #95?

CGC Signature Series Signing – Tuesday April 3, 2012

As part of our upcoming Avengers vs X-Men Launch Party event on Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012 we are excited to offer the opportunity to get a sketch on a blank “Avengers vs X-Men #1″ comic by one of our attending artists – Alex Milne, Vince Sunico, and Marvin Law, and then have it recognized and graded as an authentic Signature Series book by CGC!

We have a limited number of slots available for this event, so please Contact Us if you are interested and let us know what character you’d like a sketch of, and which artist you’d like to do the sketch. Payment may be required in advance and can be made in-store or using paypal.

The cost is $75. Included in that price is:

  • 1 blank comic book (You can choose from Avengers vs. X-Men #1, or from any other of our in-stock blank covers!)
  • 1 Head Sketch of a character of your choice, by either Alex, Marvin, or Vince (your choice!)
  • A CGC Authorized Witness to verify your sketch.
  • Delivery of  your completed sketch cover to CGC, and back to Stadium.
  • Grading service provided by CGC.

In addition, since Alex Milne will be in attendance, this is a great opportunity to get your issues of IDW’s Transformers books featuring Alex’s artwork signed and recognized as an authentic Signature Series book! The cost for this is $40 and includes:

  • 1 signature from Alex Milne on a comic that you provide
  • A CGC Authorized Witness to verify your signature.
  • Delivery of  your signed comic to CGC, and back to Stadium.
  • Grading service provided by CGC.

Avengers vs. X-Men Press Conference and News Article

Recently, Marvel asked comic shops to choose sides for the upcoming Avengers vs. X-Men event. Then each store would get merchandise, variants, and giveaways for the team that they chose. We decided to make our choice a little more “dramatic”…

We held a Press Conference at Stadium Comics concerning which team the store will be supporting as part of the upcoming Avengers vs. X-Men series, which is the comic event of the summer!

Wire Service Canada also picked up on our story – you can read the news release concerning our press conference and launch party here!

Also we announced our Avengers vs X-Men #1 Launch party, set to take place on Tuesday April 3rd from 6pm-9pm. It will feature an early release date for Issue #1, cool giveaways, exclusive variants, big savings, and awesome comic artists! We’ll have some comic artists on hand to sketch on blank covers of issue #1, or any other book of your choosing. Along with that we’ll have some giveaways of X-Men Team pins and X-Men team posters – to go along with our decision to support the X-Men during this event!

In addition, there will be exclusive Avengers vs. X-Men #1 variants available, and a BIG SALE!!

All the action gets underway at 6pm when comic artists Alex Milne, Vince Sunico, and Marvin Law arrive to start sketching! You can read more info about them below. For those interested – we will be witnessing for CGC Signature Series books at this event. We will be posting more info on this soon.

Ultimate Comics set to relaunch and reveal new Spider-Man

A month before that “other relaunch” gets underway, Marvel will be relaunching its Ultimate Comics universe with new creative teams, and someone new playing the role of Spider-Man.

Yesterday Stadium Comics participated in a retailer conference call with Marvel Editor-in-chief Axel Alonso and writers Brian Michael Bendis (Ultimate Spider-Man), Jonathan Hickman (Ultimates, Ultimate Hawkeye), and Nick Spencer (Ultimate X-Men).

Ultimate Fallout #4 was revealed to be a pivotal issue leading up to this relaunch as it will contain the first appearance of the new Spider-Man. Marvel has said this will receive mainstream press attention. at a level somewhere in between the death of Johnny Storm, and the death of Captain America. Issue 4 will ship with a clear polybag. They’ve also stated that Ultimate Fallout #1 will be a direct continuation of the Death of Ultimate Spider-Man.

Here's a sample of what Alex did at our last sketch party!

Our upcoming Blank Cover Comic Sketch Fest on Wednesday July 13th  has now been upgraded to an all day event, with the addition of Transformer’s artist Alex Milne!

Alex will get the ball rolling once the store opens at 10:00 am, and will sketch until 3:00pm. Then Vince Sunico and Marvin Law will be on hand to sketch for our customers from 3:30pm till our 9:00pm closing!

As stated in our previous post,  Captain America #1, Ghost Rider #1, and X-Men Schism #1 are all being released on July 13th with blank cover variants, perfectly designed for these talented artists to sketch on. We’re also having a sale that runs all day:

Join us at Stadium Comics for a special event on Wednesday July 13th, as Marvel releases THREE all-new blank cover variants!

The awesome and versatile artists Vince Sunico and Marvin Law will be on hand from 3:30pm till 9:00pm to sketch your favorite characters on the newly released Captain America #1 Blank Variant, Ghost Rider #1 Blank Variant, and X-Men: Schism #1 Blank Variant. The landmark Captain America #1 comes just in time for the release of the Captain America movie, and has Steve Rogers stepping back into the role he made famous! X-Men Schism is the start of the event that will divide Marvel’s greatest mutant heroes. They’re calling this the “Civil War” of the X-Men!

We’ll also have a bunch of the previously released Blank Variant comics on hand for Vince and Marvin to sketch on.
