One of my favourite pastimes at the big comic conventions has always been purchasing con exclusive action figures and comics. I’ve never been able to attend the San Diego Comic Con, but have always marveled at the vast number of exclusives available. When Wizard World Chicago was the second largest con in North America, you could afford to miss San Diego and pick up some of the same exclusives at that show. That doesn’t seem to be the case anymore – perhaps there will be some cool exclusives at New York Comic Con or Fan Expo this year.
In any event, Topless Robot put together this list of San Diego exclusives this year. There are a lot of great figures on this list! Take a look at the G.I. Joe/Transformers set of Cobra Commander and Starscream (a repainted Skystriker), with Megatron in gun-form as Cobra Commander’s weapon!
Rounding out the list are Avengers Mighty Muggs, a Swamp Thing action figure, a G.I. Joe “Cold Slither” Zarana variant, and an amazing Mumm-Ra Thundercats figure.
I09.com also has a list of “30 exclusives you’ll sell your organs for“, and that includes a Professor Zoom figure, as well as this awesome Back to the Future “Secret Box”. What’s inside? I must know! Is it plutonium? Please tell me it’s plutonium!
Perhaps the coolest things I’ve seen are these Wayne Casino Poker Chips, which DC Comics will be giving out at their booth and during their panel sessions at San Diego. Thomas Wayne as Batman has been one of the greatest things to come out of DC’s Flashpoint series – and these would make an awesome addition to any DC fanboy/fangirl’s collection.
Hopefully DC will offer the poker chips to comic retailers at some point. San Diego Comic Con runs July 20th – July 24th.
