Free Comic Book Day will be on Sat. May 4th, 2013

We’re putting together a lot of information about Free Comic Book Day here in this one post for easy access to any and all the info you need about our event which happens right here at Stadium Comics on Saturday May 4th!

Q. What is Free Comic Book Day and why should I visit Stadium Comics on May 4th?
A. Free Comic Book Day is held on the first Saturday of May every year. Participating comic stores all across North America give away comics for FREE to anyone who enters there store on that day.

Free Comic Book Day is meant to promote and celebrate comic books as great literature for all ages, and a true art form.

Stadium Comics runs one of the largest Free Comic Book Day events in Canada. In addition to the free comics, the Brampton, Ontario comic shop brings in several guest artists and creators to sign and sketch for fans. Combined with the raffles and contests, and their biggest sale of the year, Free Comic Book Day at Stadium is one event that you don’t want to miss!

Q. When is Free Comic Book Day?
A. Free Comic Book Day runs from 9:30am-6pm on Saturday, May 4th at Stadium Comics. Here’s our address:
Stadium Comics
Shoppers World Mall
Brampton, Ontario L6Y 1N7
905-451-3751

Q. Do I need to line up early?
A. In past years, we’ve had free comics well into the afternoon, but it’s hard to predict and the best free comic offerings go early. Also, our DOORCRASHER items below are very limited, and you’ll want to be there early for those. HELPFUL HINT – the mall generally opens their entrances at 8am!

Q. Who will be attending as guests?
A. We have about 16 creators showing up! They will be able to sketch and sign books for people in attendance. Visit http://www.stadiumcomics.com/fcbd for all the details!

Q. Can I get them to sign books/sketch for me?

Q. What Books can I have for Free?
A. Great question! We’ve provided this handy little video for you below which shows all of the books that will be available on Free Comic Book Day. You can also check out the Free Comic Book Day website for info on each book.

Q. How many comics can I get for Free?
A. We ask that you only take 5 comics per person, and that you not take multiples of issues. Also, and this is important – you must be here in person to pick up the free books, we can’t let you take some for your friend or relative at home. We do this to be fair to the people that have actually come out to show their support, and so that as many people as possible who come to Stadium can enjoy free books!

Q. What’s the deal with the one-of-a-kind sketch covers that will be for sale?
A. The deal is that they are AWESOME. No seriously, they are! Check out this page for all the info on the limited sketch cover comics for sale starting at 9:30am Saturday May 4th. Cost is $29.99 each, limit one per person. First come, first served. Contributing artists are Vince Sunico, Paris Alleyne, and our very own Tiffany Medeiros! We are excited to be once again hosting the Greater Toronto Area’s largest Free Comic Book Day celebration – which this year will be happening on Saturday May 5th!

Join us as we celebrate the literary and visual art form of comic books – great reading for all ages featuring stories and art by some of the most creative people on the planet!

Our event will run from 10am-6pm at our store. We’ll be having our BIGGEST SALE OF THE YEAR – which if you’ve been to our past Free Comic Book Days, you know it’s huge! There will be raffles and prizes, giveaways, balloons for the the kids, and of course the free comics.

What makes Stadium’s Free Comic Book Day really special is the “Artist Alley” that we create in the mall. Currently we have a dozen comic book creators scheduled to attend:

MARCUS TO – Artist for DC Comics and Aspen Comics, most notably on Batwing, Huntress, Red Robin, Fathom and Soulfire.

KALMAN ANDRASOFSZKY – Artist for Marvel Comics, and many others. Recent work includes X-23, Spider-Man, Action Comics, X-Men, Captain America, Dazzler, NYX, Tomb of Dracula, Checkmate and G.I. Joe.

FEARLESS FRED KENNEDY – Toronto Radio Host on EDGE 102.1 and author of Teuton, Helios, Mike Gorbsmith and host of Teletoon at Night.

VINCE SUNICO – An independent artist and a member of Spent Pencils Studio. A regular on the convention circuit and artist on the QWIXOTIC web comic.

CRIS DE LARA – A native of Brazil and the co-owner of Artepixel Illustration and Digital Painting. Cris is known for her amazing work with illustrated pin-ups and she impressed a lot of people with her appearance at our Free Comic Book Day last year.

PARIS ALLEYNE – Up and coming young comic artist who has tons of potential, and has just recently started to appear in artist alleys at conventions here in the GTA. His art portfolio has impressed us at Stadium Comics and we feel Paris will impress a lot of people at our FCBD, as well as Toronto Wizard World and Fan Expo, which he’ll also be appearing at this year.

CHRIS LEUNG – Member of Powie Studios, the creators of The Misadventures of Mal and Lot, a story about a 10 year old boy lost in space with no one able to help him, but the alien Lot. This is Chris’ second visit to Stadium Comics!

DAVID BISHOP – Writer and illustrator of the independent Zombie Survival comic Stranger.

LUCA BALDASARRA – Writer/producer of the independent comic Shadowlines.
