Stadium goes Back to School! Visit us at our new Campus Shops

You can now find Stadium Comics on two campuses in the Toronto area!

This week we begin setting up on a regular basis at both York University and Humber College – bringing the Stadium Comics brand to students, staff, and faculty at those two schools.

Our York University location will be open 5 days a week, from Monday to Friday in the York University Student Centre, conveniently located next to the food court. Click here to see more info on Stadium at York University.

Our Humber College location will be open 1 day per week (usually on Wednesdays), and is located in the Humber Student Federation’s Student Centre, on the lower level near the food court. Click here to see more information on Stadium at Humber, including our tentative schedule.

All of the services offered at our main store in Brampton will be made available to students at York and Humber, such as:

  • Pick up new release comics, and set up a free, no-strings attached pull list so you don’t miss a single comic. You can pick up your comics at either our store in Brampton, or right on campus! Plus, all pull list customers get a discount on their books!
  • Browse our selection of Trade Paperbacks, Hardcovers, and Graphic Novels. Be on the lookout for discounted books on sale at up to 75% off!
  • We’ll bring a selection of superhero, geek, and pop-culture t-shirts along with us every week.
  • Check with us for the latest in comic art and posters to cover your walls!
  • Gaming Products, Action Figures, Toys and Statues – we’re a full-service comic retailer. Ask us about pre-ordering items from PREVIEWS catalogue!

Stadium will also work diligently with student groups and clubs to support them, and foster growth of nerd/geek culture on campus in any way we can!

Comic fans everywhere have patiently awaited official blank covers from DC Comics – and now they’re finally here! Batman #0 is the first in a monthly series of Blank Covers.

Blank covers are perfect for getting your favourite comic artist to sketch on. You have an opportunity to get your very own, one-of-a-kind cover sketched on by two of our favourite artists on Wednesday, September 12th: Alex Milne and Adam Gorham!

ALEX MILNE is well known in the comics industry for his amazing work with everyone’s favourite robots – The Transformers. Alex has worked on several Transformers titles for IDW comics such as ‘The Reign of Starscream’, ‘Tales of the Fallen’, ‘Drift’, and most recently he is the artist on the ongoing Transformers comic ‘More than Meets the Eye’. **ALEX WILL BE AT STADIUM FROM 10AM-4pm**

ADAM GORHAM is the artist of the gritty medieval tale ‘Teuton’, which he produces in conjunction with Fearless Fred Kennedy, now on its second volume. Justice League #12 – Don’t pay more than you should this week!

This is Justice League #12 – The Regular Cover

Every time there is one of these big mass media sensation books, I like to remind people to be careful with their wallets when buying the comics in question.

We have seen the public mass-hysteria in the past with the Death of Captain America, Obama on the cover of Spider-Man, and the entire New52 relaunch. This week, we will be witness to it all over again with Justice League #12 – the first kiss between Superman and Wonder Woman in the new52 era.  Even Match.com has been reporting on the story!

It is an absolute blast being able to provide a customer with a book that they are generally excited to own. Comics such as Justice League #12, and the public interest behind it, will bring many potential new customers into comic shops all across the world. It’s a fun and exciting time!

We hope that comic shop owners do the right thing and offer this book at a fair price to customers who come in for it this week. There’s no reason that a non-variant comic should be selling for an amount over the regular cover price that shop normally charges. We saw, and reported on, a lot of unnecessary inflation during the DC Relaunch last year. It happened with the Obama issue, and with Death of Ultimate Spider-Man. Hopefully it doesn’t happen again.

Charging more than necessary on an in-demand book might make a retailer some money today, but that customer will most likely be left with a sour taste in their mouth when they visit another shop and it’s selling for the regular price. We should be trying to win these customers over. Copies of Justice League #12 have already been pre-sold on eBay for over $20, which is just ridiculous. We’ll be selling it at our normal cover price.

There’s also a lot of confusion over whether the image above is the cover to the variant or the regular cover. It is indeed the regular cover!

So be careful where you buy your comic this week! Don’t settle for inflated prices the same week the book has been released. Please don’t pay more than you should!

Stadium Comics is one of the coolest comic shops around, and now you have the chance to work with us!

We are growing at Stadium Comics and we are looking for the right people to grow with us. We’re currently hiring part-time staff for the following positions:

1 Customer Service Representative (Part Time – up to 5 days per week)
1 Customer Service Representative (Part Time – 1 day per week)

Here are the job requirements for interested candidates:

  • You must be outgoing, personable, easy to talk to, and friendly! Willing to go the extra mile to make sure our customers get the help they need.
  • You have some customer service and cash handling experience.
  • You must love comics, and be knowledgeable about them. You don’t need to know entire character histories, but you know the basics about what’s going on in the comic industry, and you stay up to date on what’s going on in the world of pop-culture.
  • You are available during the week in the daytime primarily, but also able to fill in on nights and weekends if needed.
  • You are EXTREMELY reliable and hardly ever take a day off work.
  • You are able to lift heavy boxes filled with comics and graphic novels.
  • You have a car, or have regular access to one, and are comfortable driving within the GTA to transport merchandise.

We’re excited to be able to offer these opportunities to like minded people who love comic books and pop culture. We are one of Canada’s most active comic retailers, participating in many signings, events, conventions, and social media initiatives throughout the year.

Stadium Comics has declared Thursday, July 19th to be DARK KNIGHT RISES DAY, in honour of Christopher Nolan’s final installment in his Batman trilogy, which comes out at Midnight that day. We’ve got a full day of Bat-fun prepared for you, both in-store and at local movie theaters!

Free Stuff – Get it while you can!
To celebrate, starting at 10am on July 19th we will be handing out FREE COPIES of “Batman: Earth One Special Preview Edition”, which features the first chapter of the highly anticipated graphic novel Batman Earth One written by Geoff Johns and illustrated by Gary Frank, as well as a preview of “Batman Vol. 1 The Court of Owls”, the New York Times #1 best-selling graphic novel collection of the hit series written by Scott Snyder and illustrated by Greg Capullo!

In addition to the comic books, there will be FREE Batman pins to give away. Both the comic and pin are available only while supplies last, and are limited to one per customer. So try to get here early if you can!

Fan favourites Vince Sunico of Spent Pencils Studio, and Marvin Law will be joining us at Stadium Comics to sketch the Dark Knight – or any other character you’d like – from 10am-5pm. After 5pm Vince and Marvin move to the Movie Theater (see below)

From 5pm-9pm there will be lots of sketching action featuring the talents of  Adam Gorham, Paris Alleyne, Aaron Ong, Kevin Briones, and Daniel Wong!

Evening – Stadium at the Movies!
We’ve also partnered up with Cineplex Entertainment to bring the Stadium Comics experience to the theaters once again for Dark Knight Rises! We’ll be at Silver City Brampton (Hwy 410/Bovaird) from 6pm-Midnight along with Vince Sunico, Arnold Trinidad, and Marvin Law.

  • JUST ADDED – Also appearing at the theater will be Spent Pencil’s Artists Alvaro Cruz and Gemal Plummer!
